Ruthana did a Bachelor of Theatre and Master of Education in Arts in the Netherlands. Besides her work in the arts, Ruthana also runs a life coach practice for children, youth and adults. Her background, both personally and professionally, has deepened her drive to support the space where theatre and social change come together, which is why she pursues a PhD in Applied Theatre at the University of Victoria. With her (practice-based) research she explores to what extend theatre can play a role in bringing more awareness to the interconnectedness of all life on earth as well as support young people in developing a relational ecological identity.
In 2022, Ruthana was part of a cohort at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, where she learned about Wise Practices in Indigenous Leadership. She is grateful to be part of the Indigenous Theatre Festival team (again), as she can keep learning about the history, epistemology and ontology of Indigenous Peoples, as well as experience how theatre can play a role in revitalizing languages.
