Hinatinyis

Director of Scenes from the Nanaimo Indian Hospital

ʔukłaamaḥ Hinatinyis. My name is Hinatinyis. I am a Huu-ay-aht woman and I have ties to the Serpent River nation. I am a learner, an instructor, and a language warrior. I have a diploma in Indigenous Language Revitalization from the University of Victoria and have been working digitally connecting with students from all over the world, many of them sixties scoop survivors looking to reconnect.

I also have a passion for community theatre and have volunteered in many shows ranging from Little Shop of Horrors (Audrey II), to The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) as a quick change artist, as well as annually working on the local Anti-Racism play, Divided We Fall.

This is my first time stepping into a director's role and I am eager to share my love of the theatre with this incredible group. I have never had the pleasure of working closely with the author and I am excited to bring
Laura Cranmer's vision to life.

The play will be a blend of two of my passions, language revitalization, and theatre. Lean into the big feelings and please take care of yourselves as we explore this traumatic and healing story. There will be counselors present for audience members who may need support either during or after the workshop/performance.
